these iphone images were taken in response to essential work, a virtual poetry workshop hosted by flatbush commons and facilitated by brooklyn-based poet hannah treasure. prompted by the covid-19 pandemic and quarantine, essential work invited attendees to explore readings by “essential worker” poets, such as physician william carlos williams and factory worker lizhi xu, as well as poets writing about money and work, like bernadette mayer, cameron quan louie, and hoa nguyen.

 

the iphone images are included in essential work vol. 1, a zine made to celebrate the creative work generated by those who attended the workshop, which can be viewed as a pdf here.
